Review Hairspray

Every now and again, a movie comes along that gets songs stuck in your head, your feet tapping, and an almost uncontrollable urge to burst out dancing to come over you. The 2007 remake of the hit 1988 movie-musical Hairspray is one of those movies. When my parents told me we were going to watch this movie tonight, I was not terribly excited. I thought "oh, it will be one of those corny movies with a terrible plot and boring actors." John Travolta dressed as a woman didn't exite me much either enliven my feelings for the movie. But boy was I wrong. Before the first song had even finished (Good Morning Baltimore ) I was hooked, and my feet were tapping the rest of the movie. The movie follows the story of a long (and rather large) girl called Tracy Tumberland who's dream is to dance on her favorite TV show, "The Corny Collins Show." She faces much opposition but finally makes her way onto the show and lives her dream. Of course, she faces much objection for her part, but somehow she pulls through and becomes a dancing diva. The Movie also deals with several themes, the biggest and most noticeable of all being a desire for change in society. Because the movie is set in Baltimore in the 1960s, segregation is still very evident. Tracy Tumberland faces opposition for her support of integration in television. She also proves to everyone that dreams can come true and that being ones-self is the most important thing of all.I found the movie one of the best I have seen all year, and would reccomend it to anyone who wants some good-fun, free-spirited entertainment! Hairspray is available on DVD wherever movies are sold.
