Now that the writer's strike has finally come to close, Disney has announced its feature releases through 2009 and early 2010. According to Variety, Disney has announced opening dates for a cluster of films, including the comedy Old Dogs, Walt Becker's follow-up to sleeper box office hit . Old Dogs stars John Travolta, Robin Williams and Seth Green, and opens in theaters April 10, 2009.
I wanted to see Wild Hogs right when I saw the preview. Pretty much just because John Travolta was in it. What? He's awesome.
Anyway, I finally got around to watching it, (thank God for free Videos On Demand) and it was great. John Travolta was great in it, even sort of making fun of his older bad-ass characters, as he tries to be a bad-ass and it doesn't really work out. I'm not a huge fan of Tim Allen but he was actually really great, same with William Macy but he was great too, and Martin Lawrence plays the same character in pretty much everything so he was fine too. And Ray Liotta was the bad guy. He's pretty much the best bad guy in Hollywood. (The voice! They picked him to do Tommy Vercetti, I mean, come on. The voice is perfect for the bad-ass bad guy.) And Marisa Tomei was a love interest, and somehow she is still hot.
Anyway, the storyline was actually really good and fun. It felt like you were there having fun with these guys, and not just watching them have fun. It was a stand up to the bad guys story without the six year old Disney demographic retardedness getting in the way.
Also, there were some great people in small parts. The Sklar Brothers (I just can't get enough of them) were two deputies and they were funny as always. John McGinley (Dr. Cox) was in it. And even Kyle Gass of Tenacious D was in it.
So maybe it wasn't the best movie ever, but it was really good I thought.
What can be said against this movie? It has a good story line, amazing actors, and awesome, amazing, and energy filling songs. It is the best movie of the year. Tracy was played by Nikki Blonsky. This was her first movie ever. The movie also has Amanda Bynes as Tracy's best friend Penny. Christopher Walken playes Tracy's dad. And John Travolta plays Tracy's mom (yes I said mom). Its a funny, inspiring, and just really well made musical.
I was searching for photos of Paul Vogt of Hairspray on Google Images and I found a picture from an article about John Waters, the director of the original film, and his opinions of all the Ednas through Paul Vogt.
I will be referring to parts of the article throughout this post.
I made a little list of all the Edna's so you know who I'm talking about:
Divine (1988 Film Version)
Harvey Fierstein [OBC Edna (July 2002 - May 2004)]
Michael McKean (May 2004-October 2004)
Bruce Vilanch (October 2004-September 2005)
John Pinette (September 2005-May 2006)
Blake Hammond (May 2006-January 2007)
Paul Vogt (January 2007-October 2007)
John Travolta (2007 Film)
George Wendt (October 2007-Present)
So I'm going to talk a little bit about Fierstein, Vogt, and Travolta's interpretations of the role.
Harvey:
"Harvey Fierstein made the role his own. God only knows, his voice is his own. And he sings! You have to sing it out. Everything has to be bigger onstage. Harvey, though, always played it as a real woman."
-John Waters
I just don't like his voice. It's very... different. But he's a good actor. No offense to Harvey but I can't listen to any of his songs on the OBCR because I hate his voice so much.
Paul:
He's awesome. The best Edna ever!! Who else has his awesomeness? I heard once he had a really funny ad-lib. During You Can't Stop the Beat, his dress got stuck to the Hairspray can so he sang:
You can't stop my happiness
Cause I like the way I am
And you just can't stop my knife and fork
When I see a Christmas ham
So If You Don't Like the way I look
Well it seems I'm stuck to the can!
I bet it got lots of laughter. You have to love his Edna!
John Travolta:
"John Travolta plays Edna as someone who had been young and very hot, but now is stay-at-home and embarrassed to go out of the house. He had been the girl when he was young. And Russ Meyer girls do get larger in life. It's like muscle men who don't work out. They turn into bears."
-John Waters
Okay John (Travolta) is great in Grease, but bad in Hairspray. I hate his Edna voice and I just don't know why but I don't like him in the part.
Okay so that is my post about 3 of the many Edna Turnblads. If you'd like to read about John Waters' opinions on all of the actors (except for Paul Vogt and George Wendt), read this article: http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117969969.html?categoryid=15&cs=1

We could have helped her with Narconon but didn’t get the chance to. I wish we had.’
Sadly, there is a general pattern in the movie stars that I fancy... they all seem to have the whole John thing going on. Isn't John a funny name? Sorry, its only because I've been writing that word more than I am used to that it gets me to thinking how odd a word it is.
Anyway, we have the top three of my celerbity unhealthy crushes and rather predictable Johnny Depp is one of them. Not just Jack Sparrow... oh no, I was on the Johnny Depp bandwagon loooong before even Edward Scissorhands (for the Emos out there). I'm talking Jump Street, kids. The 80s. Oh yerss. Its the eyes... those brown, smouldering eyes. And the lips... pouting and petal-like. And the edge of mystery, a hint of sadness and a teaspoon of insanity. Maybe its just pure animal attraction but WOOF WOOF! Vanessa Paradis is a very lucky lady.
Oh yes, he is a sex god. A Thinking Woman's sex god.
Now onto delicious, tasty man number 2. Jonathan Rhys Myers. As in Henry VIII of the Tudors. It may just be his very topless and cross portrayal of a powerful monarch of the olden days but all those steamy scenes get the mind racing and the heart pumping. Those lovely strong arms and that brooding snarl like a restless tiger. Jonathan's personal life is quite hazardous but hazard is attractive, isn't it?
Yummy, especially when he demonstrates his deftness with the unravelling of a corset.
And finally, my retro addition to my favourite movie-stars. It has to be John Travolta. The man has sex appeal and none of my friends understand but he's gorgeous! He can dance, he can tell a joke and he can charm your pants off. He's a pilot! Good God and we all know that pilots are sexy! Scientology aside, he is a brilliant catch. Bad-boy made good and more cuddly now than in his youth but no less appealing. I wouldn't kick him out of bed if he materialised next to me in the middle of the night.
I've got chills! They're multiplying!
So ends my rather sad blog on celebs that I fancy. I feel quite dirty now...

Plot
Face/Off is the story of FBI agent Sean Archer (John Travolta) who has spent the last 6 years hunting down a terrorist / hitman named Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage). Troy had attempted to assassinate Archer, but ended up killing his son instead. Acting on a tip, Archer and a team of FBI agents move in on a jet that contains Troy and his brother and partner-in-crime, Pollux. The jet runs into a hangar and the brothers try and escape. Castor kills a number of agents in a huge gun battle, but he is eventually put in a coma by Archer and Pollux is captured. However, it is revealed that Castor and Pollux were hired to blow up some part of L.A. using a biological weapon. After Archer interrogates some of Castor's friends, it becomes apparent that Pollux is the only one who knows where the bomb is and he will only talk about it with his brother. A government official tells Archer about a new surgical technique where one person's face can be transferred to another (see face transplant). Archer realizes that this is the only way that he can "become" Castor Troy and get the information he needs out of Pollux. He agrees, but due to the secrecy of the operation, he cannot tell his wife and daughter or anyone else in the agency. The operation is a success, and Archer is transferred to the security prision that houses Pollux. At the prison, Archer manages to get the location of the bomb and that its in the L.A. convention center. However, the real Castor Troy wakes up from coma and he captures the doctor who did the surgery and has Archer's face put onto his. He and his men then burn all the people who knew about this operation and set fire to the building, thus destroying all the evidence and documentation that connects the two of them. Castor then visits Archer in prison and boasts about switching faces and then has his brother Pollux set free. He then has Pollux "confess" to the location of the bomb and defuses it, thus becoming a hero. He then uses his power to conduct raids on rival criminals throughout the city. He then goes home and interacts with Archer's family. In the prison, Archer manages to escape with the help of another prisoner and gets back to L.A. Archer then visits an old friend of Castor's, Dietrich Hassler, and wants him to help kill "Sean Archer". However, Castor learns about Archer's arrival there and has an FBI task force raid the house. A huge battle starts and Archer gets Castor's ex-Girlfriend, Sasha and her son out of the house. Archer and Troy end up fighting each other and in the process, Pollux Troy gets killed and Archer escapes.
The FBI Director Victor Lazarro shows up in Castor's office furious at the bloodbath that happened at the house. Victor tells Castor (still impersonating Archer) that he is terminating his so-called war on terrorism and wants his raids to stop. Castor kills Victor and tells everyone that Victor had a heart attack. As Castor is promoted to FBI Director, Archer goes back to his house and tells his wife what happened and pleads with her to believe him. She finally believes him when she sees that their blood types don't match just as Castor starts getting suspicous of her. Castor and Archer's wife go to Victor's funeral, unexpectedly meeting Archer and Sasha. A fight breaks out, leading to Castor trying to get away on a boat. After a chase scene, a furious Archer kills Castor Troy. Archer gets his face back and goes back to his family.
