What will Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens do when the High School Musical series of musicals finally runs its course?  There is already a bit of concern about where the Gabriella and Troy characters will go for the big screen HSM 3 and both young actors have said they want to branch out.  Zac was a hit in "Hairspray" and helped that film at the box office with his world wide appeal.

But can Zanessa revive Donnie & Marie Osmond?  Marie is bust now looking spectacular and moving her feet on the dance floor on the ABC reality television hit "Dancing With the Stars" and Vanessa is looking for something that doesn't involve racy pictures of her so the timing of this bit of gossip is perfect for all involved.

It comes from Janet Charlton's Hollywood and the report reads: "After High School Musical wraps, sweethearts Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens are planning to team up again - this time to play Donny and Marie Osmond! Disney thinks they're perfect for the Donny and Marie TV movie."

More: "The Osmond brother and sister duo ruled TV with a long running variety show in the 70's, and their private lives featured lots of backstage drama. It'll be a challenge for makeup artists to make Zac and Vanessa look like brother and sister, but it sounds like fun with those 70's haircuts and platform shoes."

It sounds perfect but both have said they are looking for a bit more edgy roles.  I'm guessing in no way can a shot at playing Donny and Marie be classified as that.
